Karaoke Stars
How often do you do have this fundraiser? We have only held this contest once during our Halloween Party but it was a lot of fun and can be adapted for any event where there is karaoke available!
What type of fundraiser is this? Karaoke Singing
What do you do to prepare for the fundraiser? This event takes place during an evening of karaoke entertainment. Prior to the contest, the Event Committee selects the songs the "performers" will sing. We did ours during a Halloween Party so the songs we selected were "Halloween" related (example: Werewolf of London, Love Potion #9, Witchy Woman). At the beginning of the evening, each guest is asked to purchase and fill out a slip with there name on it and place it in a "special drawing" for a great prize (we had a Hotel Room in Wendover as our prize). The details of the "drawing" should be kept secret until the contest begins. Guests should believe the prize will be won simply by having a name pulled out of the drawing. This is the twist: When the time comes, randomly pull five names from the drawing. Explain the prize to be given will now be competed for by these five people. Each of the five people will be required to sing a "karaoke" song (selected earlier by the committee) and the audience will vote for the winner! You can also pass around a "donation basket" during the "performances" asking for change to get the "artist" a "record deal". It turns in to a lot of laughs and fun. Note: If any of your "performers" get "stage fright" and absolutely do not want to sing, ask them to designate an alternate "performer" or re-draw a name. Remember to keep it fun for everyone!
What are the costs to put on this fundraiser? Cost to rent or hire karaoke equipment varies: Approx: $100 - try to get the services donated!
Award or Prize varies: Again, free is better. Try to get prizes donated
How much do you charge for the tickets or meal, etc.? Tickets for the drawing can vary: approximately $1.00 each - Don't charge too much as the idea is to keep it fun.
How many members are needed to put on the fundraiser? A committee of one or two people is all that is needed.
How much do you usually profit from the fundraiser? If the prizes and karaoke services are donated, the money is strictly profit.
What do you usually hold the fundraiser for? We raised money for the J.D. Children's Fund and Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund.
Additional Comments: Remember to keep it fun! During the "performances" encourage the audience to participate by donating change for the "artist's upcoming record deal". You can also pass out score cards for voting. We also had "participation prizes" for the contestants that didn't win the grand prize.
