Texas Hold'em Tournament
How often do you do have this fundraiser? Twice a year
What type of fundraiser is this? Card Tournament
What do you do to prepare for the fundraiser? In Michigan you must apply for a license. We must follow the Texas Hold'em rules put out by the Michigan State Gaming division so you need to have copies for all participants. Dealers are needed for all shifts and must be trained. You must have a Pit Boss. Out tournament runs two shifts Friday, three on Saturday with finals on Sunday.
What are the costs to put on this fundraiser? Our license cost $50. for each day held. Advertising includes flyers, free radio spots, and free community calendar TV spots. Prize money is what ever % you decide. We paid out 50%. Rental of gaming tables & chips and we buy a winners Bracelet.
How much do you charge for the tickets or meal, etc.? $50.00 to enter plus a $10.00 registration fee. Some people play several times. Winners from each table go on to finals.
How many members are needed to put on the fundraiser? Tournament director, money person, pit boss, and dealers. Someone available to get drinks for the players. Our committee worked the entire tournament. It's long hours but worth it. Eight to ten people can do it.
How much do you usually profit from the fundraiser? Two to three thousand dollars.
What do you usually hold the fundraiser for? What ever group wants to do it gets the money, last time it was the entertainment committee.
Additional Comments: We have a large banquet room so we rope off the gaming area and don't allow smoking at the card tables. Players have breaks during card play so food could be available if you wanted to do that. We try to hold several practice nights two weeks before the tournament, we play for fun and go over the rules.
